Superheroes Needed

We're all heroes. And we are all needed.
Sahara Desert

Global warming is causing deserts to get hotter faster than the global average. The Sahara Desert's average annual temperature is 86°F (30°C), but it can exceed 122°F (50°C) during the hottest months.

We only have earth.
We only have us.

Worldwide—We keep expecting someone...some superhero...to come save us. In reality, we have to save ourselves. But against a planetary-scale challenge, it's so hard to know where we should each start.

Madeleine MacGillivray, a climate educator and sustainability ambassador, guides groups of all backgrounds through interactive workshops designed to help you take climate anxiety and channel it into sustainability action.

We can all be superheroes; together, we'll figure out what that means for each of us.

Over a transformative two and a half hours, Madeleine will help you become your own climate superhero, from self-discovery to your own definition of climate action.

What happens during the workshop?

  1. Our Superhero Qualities and Finding Your Element exercises will illuminate what makes YOU thrive, bringing you clarity and groundedness in this sea of climate news, analysis paralysis, and uncertainty.

  2. Community Mapping will empower you with a plan. You'll feel capable and connected to the people who will help you along your path.

  3. The connections you form with the group, as well as my guidance and support, will give you confidence and preparedness to put yourself into action to be helpful to the world and to yourself.

Superheroes Needed empowers climate-anxious and connection-hungry folks to realize their superpowers to fight for our right to a livable climate by holding the powers that be accountable and building resilient and vibrant communities.

Through intimate workshops, fun talks, and a vibrant growing online community, Superheroes Needed gives people space to dream about what their role could be, to move from despair (or indifference) to action — and equip them, as the experts of their own lived experience, with inspiration and tools to step into their climate superpowers.

Guided by joy as an act of resistance and a strategy for resilience and longevity in the movement, SN facilitates deep reflection and skill-building disguised as fun – this is about going from contemplating, to doing, to being. Superheroes Needed rejects the Western, individualistic idea that one superhero will save us; in fact we are all superheroes, and we need each other.

Who's it for?

This workshop is for people who feel the pressure of the climate crisis but feel stuck or confused on how they can put their skills and passion to higher use. You might have some 'threads' (i.e. 1. you have a communications background and 2. you care about social justice) but are feeling paralyzed and maybe a little frustrated about how to pull at them.

Maybe you're a ceramicist who wants to use your creativity and platform to support climate causes, but you don't know how to find or support one. Maybe you're a student about to graduate, but you don't know whether you want to pursue nonprofit, government, or corporate life. Maybe you're mid-career with expertise in your field and aren't sure how to pivot to climate or integrate climate into your existing work.

You're in your life, but you don't want to get five years down the line and feel like you didn't have an impact.

Madeleine is wonderful and a great leader. By making this workshop available, she has created a space for individuals to identify what they want/how they can use their experiences & skills to help work for climate change (personally & professionally). This also allows for people to meet others with similar interests and connect on how to improve for the planet & community. Thanks!
